About Veena

(A brief and formal introduction)

Veena Narayan is a writer who quit her teaching job in 2018, to be able to devote more time to her writing. She is an alumna of the University of East Anglia Creative Writing Workshop (Kolkata, March – April, 2013) led by authors Amit Chaudhuri and Romesh Gunesekera. Her short stories have appeared in The Journal of Literature and Aesthetics and Bengaluru Review. She was also part of the Writing Workshops’ Advanced Fiction Workshop (Jan – March 2021) led by Jenny Bhatt. Veena is currently working on a novel about a feisty, middle aged woman and her many misadventures. She lives in Kochi, a coastal city in the Indian state of Kerala.


Welcome to my online home. Let me tell you a little more about myself.

Ever since I was a little girl of eleven I wanted to become a writer. I remember saying that out loud to an audience of classmates and teachers during an elocution competition in school. But, because of a whole lot of reasons – and they’re all complicated – I had to shelve my dream. Then, circumstances changed and here I am, pursuing it with enthusiasm, enjoying every moment: the highs and the lows.
