Veena Narayan is a writer who quit her teaching job in 2018, to be able to devote more time to her writing. She is an alumna of the University of East Anglia Creative Writing Workshop (Kolkata, March – April, 2013) led by authors Amit Chaudhuri and Romesh Gunesekera. Her short stories have appeared in The Journal of Literature and Aesthetics and Bengaluru Review. She is currently working on her novel set in the fictitious town of Ichikode. She lives in Kochi, a coastal city in the south-western Indian state of Kerala.
Welcome to my online home. Now that we’ve got the formal intro over and done with, let me tell you a little more about myself.
Ever since I was a little girl of eleven I wanted to become a writer. I remember saying that out loud to an audience of classmates and teachers during an elocution competition in school. But, because of a whole lot of things – and they’re all complicated – I had to shelve my dream. Then, things changed and here I am, pursuing it with enthusiasm, enjoying every moment; the highs and the lows.
